The all-new 2017 Honda Civic Si Coupe and Civic Si Sedan go on sale today, carrying a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) that starts at $23,900.
The new Civic Si models, revealed in a video just last month, are the latest additions to Honda's ever-expanding tenth-generation Civic lineup, which will soon get even sportier with the launch of the track-ready Type R.
The Civic Si is equipped with a high-performance, high-torque 1.5-liter, direct-injected, and turbocharged DOHC in-line 4-cylinder engine with dual variable cam timing (dual VTC). That motor is paired with a short-throw, six-speed manual transmission, yielding to EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 28/38/32 mpg in city/highway/combined traffic.
The first-ever turbocharged Si achieves a peak output of 205 horsepower arrives at 5,700 rpm, and peak torque of 192 lb-ft at 2,100 rpm. Those numbers represent a much broader power band and significantly increased torque output than the previous Si.
Both the 2017 Civic Si Coupe and Sedan are available in just two trims, the $23,900 base model and the $24,100 model with summer tires.
The new Si Coupe and Sedan models are also significantly lighter than the previous generation models-the sedan's curb weight of 2,906 pounds is down 96 pounds from the previous model, while the coupe's curb weight of 2,889 pounds represents 113 pounds of weight loss.
A wider wheel track, a stiffer chassis, a dual-pinion adaptive electric power steering system with variable rations, a helical limited-slip differential, stronger tires and brakes, and ultra-rigid front upper control arms taken from the Type R also contribute to an enhanced driving experience.
The Civic Si Coupe and Sedan offer a choice of two driving modes: Normal and Sport. The default Normal Mode, as one might expect, offers more "comfort-oriented dynamics," while the Sport Mode adjusts the suspension damping characteristics and the steering and throttle response for a superior driving experience.
